Your location is also transmitted with GPS accuracy. Because SPOT uses the satelllite phone network to transmit its messages, it works where mobile phones don't. Help is now just a push button away! SPOT is powered by AA lithium batteries that have a standby of approximately 12 months. It is light and easy to transport with coverage in Australia, Canada, Europe, Mexico, and practically, all of the continental United States sections of South America, Northern Africa, and North Eastern Asia. The system also has coverage in hundreds or thousands of miles offshore to these areas. There is a proven 99.4% reliability with the SPOT messenger system. They process over 6 million messages a month or approximately 2.3 messages per second. The SPOT network uses a GPS satellite system to verify a user's location. You can purchase the messenger here for AUD229.00 (inc GST). Once you receive your SPOT, you need to register the device online and subscribe to the services you need. Note: An annual service subscription is required to access functionality. There are several levels of subscription; Annual Service Fee - $115 USD The annual service fee includes the capability to send 'OK' or 'Help' messages to your friends and family and to send an emergency signal to the responding authorities. Unlimited Premuim Tracking Function - $49 USD The optional unlimited tracking service allows you to transmit your location every 10 minutes for a 24 hour period. You can then review your journey later on google maps or allow friends and family to stay up to date with your movements. Tracking is activated by the user by pressing the OK button for 5 seconds. It will then send a tracking signal for 24 hrs before needing reactivation. GEOS Emergency Response Service - $12.95 USD  for the first year and $150 USD per year afterwards Provides up to $100,000 USD of additional search and rescue resources, including helicopter extraction around the world and reimbursement benefits - underwritten by Lloyd's of London - for any emergency service expenses incurred.
